Notes: 
The Least-Cost Divide is derived from estimated travel times from the Chivay and the Alca sources. The travel times were calculated using a non-isotropic model of foot-travel over hilly terrain (Tobler 1993).

The cross-section line was arbitrarily selected to illustrate the narrowness of the Andean mountain corridor.
